“Come closer to the fire,” the elder’s voice rumbles, carrying the scent of woodsmoke and pepper vines. “Here in the Coorg hills, the earth and sky are bound like family. Every tree in the forest stands as a silent elder, every stream hums with the blessings of our ancestors, and every creature—be it bird, beast, or serpent—walks under the watch of the unseen spirits. We keep their favour with respect and offerings, for they guard us as much as we guard the land. When the paddy turns gold, we sing the Puthari song to thank the harvest; when the guns, odikathi, spears and other weapons  are laid out for Kailpodh, we remember the courage in our blood handed down to us by our ancestors; and when the river swells during Kaveri Sankramana, we bow to the goddess who gives us life. Not long ago, there lived a boy named Bopu, his friend Kaveri, and a brown dog called Bollu. Their childhood was stitched together by festivals, forest paths, and the whispers of spirits who watched from the shadows. What I tell you now is not just their tale—it is the Coorg Odyssey, the living breath of our valley, carried in the wind, guarded by the hills, and remembered in the hearts of all who belong here.”

 

Bopu, Kaveri, and Bollu form an inseparable trio bound by friendship, loyalty, and a shared love for adventure.

Bopu is a spirited, quick-witted boy whose mischievous energy often pulls the group into daring escapades. Deeply connected to nature and his Coorg roots, he blends playful humor with courage, always ready to protect his friends while questioning anything that feels unfair.

Kaveri brings balance with her thoughtful, compassionate nature. Gentle yet determined, she acts as the group’s moral compass, standing up for what’s right and seeking harmony between people and the natural world. Her calm reasoning and quiet strength often steer the others toward wiser choices.

Bollu, the brown Indies dog, is the ever-loyal and fearless companion, brimming with curiosity and playful antics. His protective instincts and brave heart make him a hero in moments of danger, while his comic misadventures bring warmth and laughter.
